Only 936 Weeks to Influence Your Child

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90:12 NIV

The average parent has 936 weeks to prepare their child with the tools needed to succeed without parental guidance… I recently joined a small group called “Parenting Through the Phases” at my church, World Overcomers. In one of our sessions, the minister informed us about this 936 Weeks Concept. He demonstrated this theory by using a jar of marbles with the total of weeks he has left with each one of his children. Check out the video below to show you a similar demonstration of how significant each marble can be.

As you watch him remove the marbles for weeks that pass, it begins to hit you on how significant each moment is with your child. One of the quotes that stuck with me during this session was “When you see how much time you have left, you tend to get serious about the time you have now.”

We tend to think about the life of our little ones in these long-drawn-out years. But, to realize that I only have 582 weeks left to raise my son, Romeo, scares me because I am almost halfway there.

  • Where has time gone?
  • What have I done in the past 354 weeks to truly influence my son to go down the right path in life?
  • What can I do to be more present and mindful during these weeks?

These are the thoughts that began to go through my mind after realizing the remaining time I have before my son starts to make critical life decisions without my presence. We, as parents and influencers, can be the significant difference between our child becoming a statistic vs. a success story. Time is so important and every single week counts.

  • Continuing to provide our children with the lessons and resources to make the right choice when a decision is presented to them will make all the difference in the remaining time.
  • Switching our mindset to become present through each phase of a child’s life and preparing our little ones to conquer life is vital to making every marble count.

I now have a jar of 582 marbles where I remove a marble for each week of time that I’ve had to influence my son to become a better human being. I plan to be more mindful with each marble of time to ensure I am being the difference between my son being successful or choosing an adverse path. How do you think putting a number to you remaining weeks will impact the way you choose to influence your child? How do you plan to spend your remaining marbles?
